SUMMARY:7:00pm:  Lent Study – Heroes of the Faith
DESCRIPTION:For our 2022 Lenten Series we have selected the Theme of Heroes of the Faith.   We have invited five speakers to speak about a hero of the faith who is either important to them or who they feel has impacted how we express faith in a significant way.\nSpeakers have been asked to talk for 20-25 minutes. The talk will be followed by small group discussions and a final plenary session.\nThe sessions will all be delivered digitally by Zoom beginning at 7pm and lasting for around an hour. He was Professor of Divinity at The University of Aberdeen and the author of “The life of God in the soul of man” which was regarded as a ground breaking explanation of Christianity.\nWednesday 16 March – Amy Buller\nSpeaker: Henna Cundill\nAmy Buller was the founder of Cumberland Lodge, an alternative University focussed on discussion, which was established in 1947 as a result of the gift of the Lodge by King George VI. Her most famous publication was “Darkness over Germany” which chronicled the changes which occurred in Germany in the 1930’s and the processes which led to the radicalisation of so many young people.\nWednesday 23 March – Jock Troup and the 1921 Revival\nSpeaker: Graham Young\nJock Troup 1896-1954 was a Christian evangelist from Fochabers who had a major role in the Fisherman’s revival of 1921.\nWednesday 30 March – George MacLeod\nSpeaker:  Martin Randall\nGeorge MacLeod 1895-1991 was a controversial Church of Scotland Minister and the founder of the Iona Community. He was also the first Peer to represent the Green Party.\nWednesday 6 April – John Comper\nSpeaker:  Emsley Nimmo\nJohn Comper 1823-1903 is best know for his work among the poor and especially children in Aberdeen. Following his death, he was made a Hero of the Faith by the SEC. He was the founding Minister of St Margaret’s Aberdeen. A life long adherent of the Oxford Movement he was ordained by Bishop Alexander Forbes with the sermon at his ordination being preached by JM Neale the hymn writer. John Comper served in parishes in Nairn, Stonehaven and Aberdeen. His sister founded St Margaret’s Convent and his Son Ninian was the well-known Church Architect.\n
